Ayurveda for Treating Chronic Kidney illness

chronic kidney disease treatment in Ayurveda

Kidney disease indicates that your kidneys have been damaged and cannot filter blood as effectively as they should. If you have diabetes or recurring symptoms of high blood pressure, you're more likely to develop diseases like chronic kidney disease. Kidney Failure can be treated with either a kidney transplant or dialysis. Acute Kidney Injury, Kidney Cysts, Kidney Stones, and Kidney Infections are some of the other kidney issues. Kidney Dialysis and Kidney Transplant are two of the most popular treatments for patients who are nearing the end of their lives. The major goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms, prevent complications, and delay kidney loss.

Kidney transplantation is done from a matching donor, and the body may reject the replaced kidney, necessitating another transplant, whereas dialysis is dangerous and increases the risk of kidney infection. Both procedures are risky and expensive, and none cure the disease. Kidney Disease, also known as "Mutravahshrotas Vyadhi" in Sanskrit, occurs when the kidneys do not function properly. Chronic kidney disease treatment in Ayurveda is very helpful to cure the kidney and its functions.

Types of Kidney Disease:

  • Kidney Failure Acute (Sudden Failure to Kidney Functions, Serious condition and mainly occurs during the last stage of disease)
  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) (a slowly progressive problem in the kidneys that takes time to advance to the later stage)
  • Nephrotic Syndrome is a medical condition that affects the kidneys.
  • Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) (Genetic condition which leads to the formation of a cyst in the kidneys)
  • The most common medical condition in the kidney is Renal Calculus development (Kidney Stone, either one or both sides, sometimes stone shifted in ureter with terrible pain)
  • The most complicated condition is ESRD (End-stage renal disease), which signifies kidney function loss.

Other factors are:

  • Kidney High Blood Pressure is the second leading cause of diabetes mellitus, which is caused by the incorrect utilization of insulin hormone.
  • Glomerulonephritis is a kidney illness in which the glomeruli are damaged and are unable to clear waste and fluid as efficiently as they can.
  • Lupus Nephritis is the medical term for lupus-related kidney edema and inflammation.
  • Protein in the urine, low blood protein levels in the blood, high cholesterol, high triglyceride levels, and swelling are all indications of Minimal Change Disease, a kidney condition that can develop into Nephrotic syndrome.

Sign & Symptoms:

Kidney illness develops slowly, and indications may not occur until the kidneys have been severely damaged. You may notice symptoms produced by waste and extra fluid piling up in your body when you reach the end stages of renal disease and are on the verge of kidney failure.

  • Itching
  • Muscle spasms
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fluid collection in the lungs
  • Anemia
  • Swelling of the body

Ayurvedic Management Concept for Kidney illness –

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), also known as 'Mootra Dosh Vikara' in Ayurvedic literature, is one of the leading causes of edema (Swollen Body parts). 'Medovaha shrotas' is the root of both kidneys. The disease is caused by the obstruction of minute bodily pathways known as 'Shrotas.' The 'Mutravaha Shrotas,' or bodily channels involved in this case, convey urine and are responsible for the movement of fluids into and out of the kidneys. If the incoming 'Shrotas' are blocked, the kidneys are deprived of fluids, resulting in Shrinkage, and if the outbound channels are closed, Swelling occurs. Chronic kidney disease treatment in Ayurveda strengthens the kidneys, restores their filtration capacity, and improves overall kidney function. They recommend very powerful Ayurvedic herbs like Punanarva (Boerhavia Diffusa), which can clean these channels, reduce edema, and regenerate the kidney.

Kidney problems are treated in Ayurvedic medicine by using herbals and mineral medicines like Tankan Bhashma and Praval to repair and nourish the nephrons. The primary treatment is-

  • Shodana Therapy (Cleansing Method).
  • Panchakarma therapies.
  • Kizhi- Herbal Pouch Application.
  • Controlling BP, sugar level and cholesterol level.
  • To restrict sodium intake.
  • Low potassium food like carrots, apples, etc., are preferred.
  • Protein intake is regulated, and low protein sources like cereals, vegetables, and fruits are recommended.
  • Oily and fried foods are strictly avoided.
